On October 6, 2010, our son Cameron Kelly Batson suffered Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) and died tragically on the field while practicing soccer with his only sibling, Logan. Cameron's exact cause of death was Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Dysplasia (ARVD). This is a hereditary condition in which the heart muscle of the right ventricular is replaced by scar tissue that interrupts the normal sequence of the electrical activity of the heart, causing SCA. Our son Logan has also been diagnosed with ARVD and has had a defibrillator implanted in his chest.
There aren’t enough words to describe Cameron Kelly Batson. He was an amazing boy who simply loved life and lived everyday as if it were his last. For those who knew Cameron, you would know that he always had a smile on his face and did anything he could to please everyone. Cameron had a way about himself, which made others feel as if you were his only friend. He had such a diverse group of friends. He was such a good friend, one that is hard to find, harder to leave, and impossible to forget. Best friends are the sibling God didn’t give us...and that was Cameron.
Cameron had many talents, one being soccer. From kindergarten through high school Cameron played year-round for a great number of teams, and was even captain for his high school varsity team his senior year. As good as he was on the soccer field; he was just as good in the art room and just loved to express himself through his artwork.
Cameron was attending Cincinnati State to pursue a career in Graphic Art Design. He had many goals for his future and such a zest for life.
As a family we have started a foundation called "Cameron's Cause". All proceeds go toward placing automated external defibrillators (AEDs) in schools and school sponsored athletic events.
We would like to thank you for your continued prayers, love and support through these difficult times. It is our hope that no other parent or sibling would have to endure such despair to Sudden Cardiac Arrest in young athletes.
